JAYSON (PORTRAIT)
In 2008, Meg Stuart created a one-shot video inspired by the face-to-face videos of Vito Acconci, in which she explored time capsules of compressed presence revolving around simple actions and relational axes. In that video, titled The Only Possible City, spaces of memory were the starting point.
In 2022, Meg Stuart revisited the subject and created portraits with the dancer Jayson Batut in the context of Zero Point. She subsequently explored the potential of the portrait further, resulting in two additional works: Matija (2024) and Kotomi (2025). These portraits confront the archive of the inner world with the external framework of social life. At their centre, between reality and simulation, lies the gaze. What we are watching becomes our own interrogation.

Im Jahr 2008 schuf Meg Stuart, angeregt durch die Face-to-Face-Videos von Vito Acconci, ein One-Shot-Video, in dem sie Zeitkapseln verdichteter Präsenz untersuchte, die um einfache Handlungen und relationale Achsen kreisen. In diesem Video mit dem Titel The Only Possible City bildeten Erinnerungsräume den Ausgangspunkt.
2022 griff Meg Stuart das Thema erneut auf und schuf im Rahmen von Zero Point Porträts mit dem Tänzer Jayson Batut. Anschließend erforschte sie das Potenzial des Porträts weiter. Daraus entstanden zwei weitere Arbeiten: Matija (2024) und Kotomi (2025). Diese Porträts konfrontieren das Archiv der inneren Welt mit dem äußeren Rahmen des gesellschaftlichen Lebens. In ihrem Zentrum, zwischen Wirklichkeit und Simulation, liegt der Blick. Was wir betrachten, wird zu unserer eigenen Befragung.
