We are excited to present two film programs at Alexandrinski Theater (Saint Peterburg, Russia) on 23rd and 24th October 2021. Thanks to the organizers and curators Dina Veryutina, Nika Parhomovska and Elena Leskova, to Alexandrinski Theater and to Goethe-Institut for inviting us! And a big thank you to all participating artists for making this event possible!
Next to the film screenings Sarah Möller (POOL) will offer a workshop and a lecture (Oct 22). The lecture will investigate the relation between given patterns in the background of an image and dance movements in the foreground by analysing four film examples from the New York dance and film avant-garde of the 70s. Next to Yoshiko Chuma’s film The Girl Can’t Help It (1979), that will be presented completely within the talk, the lecture will focus on the documentation of Lucinda Childs’ site-specific performance Calico Mingling (1973) filmed by Babette Mangolte, on Windows in the Kitchen (1976) by Elaine Summers and on Joan Jonas‘ film Song Delay (1973).
With special thanks to Yoshiko Chuma and to Thomas Körtvélyessy (Artistic Estate of Elaine Summers, made possible by the Kinetic Awareneness® Center, with special thanks to the Jerome Robbins Dance Division, The New York Public Library for the Performing Arts.)
