POOL showcases inspiring dance film productions that intertwine physical and cinematic movement. We admire critical reflections, resonance and imagination in using bodies and movement in the realm of film.
The festival opens a space for exchange among artists from various fields who explore the interplay between dance, film, visual art, music, and fashion, providing the audience with kinesthetic experiences through the moving canvas.
Founded in 2007, POOL has developed a unique curatorial line, combining the presentation of current movement-based films next to historical artworks in the format POOL Shine – New York Traces.
PROGRAM AND PEARLS
Curated from our established artistic network, through a call for submissions, and in collaboration with guest curators, the festival features current artistic positions and perspectives in dance film. The selected films, our PEARLS 24, are presented side by side over three evenings and reflect the diversity of the dance film format and its themes.
SUBMIT A FILM
Films can be handed in at any time of the year through our submission form. To ensure consideration for the upcoming festival edition, submissions should be made no later than two months before the festival begins. The next festival will take place from October 16th to 20th, 2024, at DOCK 11 in Berlin.
Films should not be longer than 30 minutes, nor should they be merely a documentation of a dance piece. Longer films may be taken into consideration for special programs.
Should your film fit one of our programs, we will be in touch with you to request the following additional materials:
– Screening copy of the film
– 2-3 digital film stills
– Optional: trailer and CV
ARTIST FEE
Each production shown at the festival receives an artist fee of € 180 (net).*
*When processing the payment, we need to adhere to certain administrative rules – we will work together with you to find solutions.
JOIN THE FESTIVAL IN PERSON
The festival’s aim is to be a meeting point for artists working at the interface of performing arts and film. All selected productions are cordially invited to join the screenings and their following get-together events in person. We support artists’ travel fees up to an amount and offer free accommodation in the guest rooms of EDEN*****.
PARTNERS & COLLABORATIONS
Throughout the year POOL collaborates with various venues and partners, such as b12 Festival, presenting selected films and thematic programs in the framework of diverse art events.

PROFIL
POOL präsentiert inspirierende Tanzfilmproduktionen und ist ein Treffpunkt für Künstler*innen aus Tanz und Film sowie der Kunst-, Musik- und Modeszene. Der Fokus des Festivals liegt auf Filmen, die aus dem engen Zusammenspiel filmischer und tänzerischer Bewegung eigenständige Filmchoreographien entstehen lassen – kritische Reflexionen, Resonanzen und Imaginationen mittels Körper und Bewegung auf der Leinwand.
POOL wurde 2007 gegründet und zeichnet sich durch seine kuratorische Linie aus, die die Präsentation aktueller bewegungsbasierter Filme und historischer künstlerischer Arbeiten im Rahmen von POOL Shine – New York Traces verbindet.
PROGRAMM UND PEARLS
Kuratiert aus einem gewachsenen künstlerischen Netzwerk, den Filmeinreichungen sowie im Verbund mit Gastkuratorinnen präsentiert das Festival an drei Abenden aktuelle künstlerische Positionen und Perspektiven des Tanzfilms. In den ausgewählten Filmen, den PEARLS 24, spiegelt sich die Vielfalt des Genres und seiner Themen wider.
FILMEINREICHUNGEN
Filme können ganzjährig über unser Anmeldeformular mit einem Sichtungslink eingereicht werden.
Damit Filme für die kommende Festivaledition berücksichtigt werden können, sollten die Filme spätestens zwei Monate vor Festivalbeginn eingesendet werden.
Das nächste Festival findet vom 16. – 20. Oktober 2024 im DOCK 11 in Berlin statt.
Bewerben können sich Künstler*innen mit Tanzfilmen und Tanzanimationen. Die Filme sollten eine Länge von 30 Minuten nicht überschreiten und keine pure Dokumentation einer Performance sein.
Sollte der Film für das Programm ausgewählt werden, benötigen wir folgende Materialien:
– Vorführkopie des Films
– 2-3 Filmstills
– Optional: Trailer und Biografien
FESTIVALBESUCH UND KÜNSTLER*INNENHONORAR
POOL versteht sich als ein Treffpunkt für Künstler*innen, die an der Schnittstelle von Tanz und Film arbeiten. Die ausgewählten Produktionen sind herzlich zu den Screenings und einem anschließenden Get-Together eingeladen. Wir übernehmen anteilig Reisekosten und bieten kostenfreie Unterbringung in den Gästezimmern des EDEN*****.
Daneben steht für jede gezeigte Produktion ein Künstler*innenhonorar von 180 € (netto) zur Verfügung.
PARTNER UND KOLLABORATIONEN
Über die Festivaltage hinaus arbeitet POOL mit verschiedenen Partnern, wie z.B. dem b12 Festival, zusammen und präsentiert ausgewählte Filmprogramme an unterschiedlichen Kunst- und Veranstaltungsorten.
