Der Film Babadana (The Opening) erzählt von der fortwährenden Suche des Menschen nach Wegen, im Einklang mit der Natur zu leben. Er begleitet die spirituellen und körperlichen Wege dreier Praktizierender traditioneller Glaubenssysteme, die versuchen, ihre Verbindung zur Natur wiederherzustellen und das Verhältnis zwischen Mensch und natürlicher Welt tiefer zu verstehen. Die drei Praktizierenden sind überzeugt, dass die Verbindung zwischen Mensch und Natur bereits in jedem Einzelnen angelegt ist und sich durch Intuition, Vertrauen und innere Wahrnehmung erschließen lässt. In ihrer Praxis nutzen sie Tanzbewegungen, körperliche Gesten und über Generationen weitergegebene Rituale, um mit der Natur zu kommunizieren, ihr zuzuhören und mit ihr eins zu werden. Tradition ist für sie nicht nur kulturelles Erbe, sondern ein lebendiges Wissen, das das Gleichgewicht zwischen Mensch, Umwelt und Universum bewahrt. Der Film legt nahe, dass der Schlüssel zu einem Leben im Einklang mit der Natur darin liegt, die Zyklen des Lebens, die uns umgeben, zu verstehen und zu respektieren.
Film Babadana (The Opening) tells the story of humanity’s ongoing search for ways to live in harmony with nature. The film explores the spiritual and physical journeys of three practitioners of traditional belief systems as they seek to reconnect with and better understand the relationship between human beings and the natural world.
These practitioners believe that the bond between humans and nature already exists within each individual, revealed through intuition, trust, and inner awareness. In their practice, they employ dance movements, embodied gestures, and ancestral rituals passed down through generations as a means of communicating with, listening to, and becoming one with nature. For them, tradition is not merely a cultural inheritance, but a living body of knowledge that sustains balance between humanity, the environment, and the universe.
The film suggests that the key to living in harmony with nature lies in understanding and respecting the cycles of life that unfold around us.
“Babadana (The Opening) was developed through a long-term cultural research process focusing on traditional ritual practices, local belief systems, and dance traditions in Central Java, Indonesia. The film emerged from close engagement with cultural practitioners and spiritual adherents who maintain ancestral knowledge and practices as part of their everyday lives.
Rather than documenting these traditions in a conventional ethnographic manner, the film adopts an experimental and performative approach, using movement, sound, and visual symbolism to explore the relationship between humans and nature. The production process involved observation, dialogue, and collaboration with community members, allowing the film to grow from lived experiences and local perspectives.”
// Muhamad Alfi Majid, bekannt als Moch Alvi (*1996), ist ein unabhängiger Filmemacher mit Schwerpunkt auf experimentellem Kino. In seiner künstlerischen Praxis verbindet er visuelle Kunst, Performance, Ritual und kulturelles Gedächtnis und untersucht dabei insbesondere das Verhältnis zwischen Mensch, Natur, Spiritualität und Tradition. Er studierte Broadcasting an der Indonesian Communication Academy. Seine Arbeiten wurden auf Filmfestivals, Ausstellungen und kulturellen Plattformen in Asien und Europa präsentiert. Seit 2020 lebt er in Wonosobo, wo er die Plattform Sekitar Kita Kreativa für Film-, Kultur- und Bildungsprojekte gründete. Seine Arbeit basiert auf kultureller Recherche und einer langfristigen Zusammenarbeit mit lokalen Gemeinschaften, insbesondere im Bereich traditioneller Tänze, Rituale und überlieferten Wissens. Durch die Verbindung dokumentarischer, performativer und künstlerischer Elemente nutzt er Film als Medium für kulturelle Bewahrung, Experiment und den Dialog zwischen Tradition und Gegenwart.
// Muhamad Alfi Majid, known as Moch Alvi (b. 1996), is an independent filmmaker working primarily in experimental cinema. His practice explores the intersections of visual art, performance, ritual, and cultural memory, with a focus on the relationship between humans, nature, spirituality, and tradition. A graduate of the Indonesian Communication Academy in Broadcasting, his films have been presented at festivals, exhibitions, and cultural platforms across Asia and Europe. Since 2020, he has been based in Wonosobo, where he founded Sekitar Kita Kreativa, a platform for film, cultural projects, and creative education. His work is rooted in cultural research and long-term engagement with local communities, particularly around traditional dance, ritual practices, and ancestral knowledge. Combining documentary, performative, and artistic elements, he uses film as a space for cultural preservation, experimentation, and dialogue between tradition and contemporary life.
