This year’s program was created in collaboration with guest curators — artists and programmers who have been active in the dance film scene for a long time and have contributed films to the program from their deep experience and networks.
We are very excited about this curatorial path and are grateful for the cooperation with Elysa Wendi, Mayo Rodríguez Baeza, Louise Coetzer, and Oscar O’Ryan.

Das diesjährige Programm entstand in Zusammenarbeit mit Gastkurator*innen – Künstler*innen und Veranstalter*innen, die seit langem in der Tanzfilmszene aktiv sind und die mit ihrer Erfahrung und aus ihrem Netzwerk Filme zum Programm beigetragen haben.

ELYSA WENDI
Elysa Wendi is an artist , filmmaker and curator based in Hong Kong and Singapore.
Rooted and raised in different parts of South East Asia, Wendi’s nomadic childhood and lifestyle has an impactful influence and consciousness on her
practice and most of her works. Preoccupied with the abstraction and displacement of memories from place, time and biographical traces, Wendi
explores these materials in her live and filmic works. Straddling the amorphous boundaries between borders, languages, and histories, Wendi
works through hybrid documentary projects, audio-visual essays, and metachoreographic rituals, to explore the auto-fictional narratives of bodies and movements. Her films have been screened widely at film festivals, including Berlinale Forum Expanded (Germany), Jihlava (Czech), Image Forum (Tokyo), EXiS (Seoul) , Le FIFA (Montreal), to name a few.
A dancer and choreographer by training, Wendi’s practice includes exploring possibilities and notion of choreographic and performative through the media of film, curatorial projects, and other performance-based interventions. In
2015, she co-founded Cinemovement, a platform facilitating transdisciplinary creations between moving image and performance through a laboratory setting, with Singaporean film producer Jeremy Chua.
Wendi is now working as the curator for Jumping Frames Hong Kong International Movement -image Festival as well as Indonesia Bertutur Layarambha Dance Film Festival since 2022.

Elysa Wendi ist Künstlerin, Filmemacherin und Kuratorin und lebt in Hongkong und Singapur.
Aufgewachsen in verschiedenen Teilen Südostasiens, ist die nomadische Kindheit und Lebensweise prägend für ihr künstlerisches Bewusstsein und ihre Praxis. In Live-Performances und filmischen Arbeiten setzt sie sich mit der Abstraktion und der Ablösung [displacement] von Erinnerungen von Orten, Zeit und biografischen Spuren auseinander. Amorphe Grenzen zwischen Ländern, Sprachen und historischen Narrativen überspannend, entwirft Wendi in hybriden Dokumenarprojekten, audio-visuellen Essays und meta-choreographischen Ritualen auto-fiktionale Erzählungen entlang von Körpern und Bewegung. Ihre Filme wurden weltweit auf Festivals gezeigt, u.a. beim Berlinale Forum Expanded (Deutschland), Jihlava (Tschechien), Image Forum (Tokio), EXiS (Seoul) und Le FIFA (Montreal).
Ausgebildet als Tänzerin und Choreographin erforschct Wendi die Möglichkeiten des Choreograpbischen und Performativen im Medium Film, durch kuratorische Projekte und andere performative Interventionen. 2015 gründete sie gemeinsam mit dem singapurischen Filmproduzenten Jeremy Chua die Plattform Cinemovement, die transdisziplinäre Produktionen zwischen Bewegtbild und Performance durch Laborformate fördert.
Aktuell ist Wendi Kuratorin des Jumping Frames Hong Kong International Movement-Image Festivals sowie seit 2022 des Indonesia Bertutur Layarambha Dance Film Festivals.
MAYO RODRÍGUEZ BAEZA
Mayo Rodríguez Baeza is a creator, dancer-performer, curator, and engineer specializing in environmental and circular economy strategies as well as sustainability. She is the Artistic Director of Bestias Danzantes Dance Film Festival, a Chilean platform focused on the screening, circulation, and experimentation of dance cinema.
In her artistic work, Mayo explores and creates spaces of emotional connection by blending movement, body, sound, and words with a deep sense of curiosity and sensitivity. She is part of the Chilean project rodriguez_romero and the Chilean-German project nissrodriguez, which foster spaces for research, creation, and reflection, born from collaborative intercultural exchanges with Carla Romero (Santiago, Chile) and Ann-Leonie Niss (Hamburg, Germany). Currently, she is engaged in a collaborative artistic dialogue with sound artist Ian Jakab (Munich, Germany), working between Santiago, Chile, and Munich, Germany. Their research and creation project, S.O.S Space of Silence, was performed in July 2024 in Munich at Pathos Theater and the Alter Botanischer Garten.
As a curator, she has developed and collaborated on over 26 dance and dance cinema programs for biennials, dance and dance film festivals, as well as unconventional spaces in Argentina, Chile, Colombia, Finland, France, Germany, Romania, and Sweden.

Mayo Rodríguez Baeza ist Künstlerin, Tänzerin-Performerin, Kuratorin und Ingenieurin mit einem Fokus auf Kreislaufwirtschaft und Nachhaltigkeitsstrategien. Sie ist Künstlerische Leiterin des Bestias Danzantes Dance Film Festivals – einer chilenischen Plattform, die sich der Präsentation und Distribution von Tanzfilmen [Dance Cinema] und Weiterbildung im Feld widmet.
In ihrer künstlerischen Arbeit lässt Mayo Räume emotionaler Verbindung entstehen, indem sie Bewegung, Körper, Klang und Worte feinsinnig verwebt. Sie ist Teil des chilenischen Projekts rodriguez_romero und des chilenisch-deutschen Projekts nissrodriguez, das Räume für Forschung, Kreation und Reflexion öffnet, die im kollaborativen und interkulturellen Austausch mit Carla Romero (Santiago, Chile) und Ann-Leonie Niss (Hamburg, Deutschland) entwickelt wurden. Zuletzt hat sie im gemeinschaftlichen, künstlerischen Dialog mit dem Soundkünstler Ian Jakab (München, Deutschland) das Recherche- und Performanceprojekt S.O.S Raum der Stille kreiert, das im Juli 2024 im Pathos Theater und im Alten Botanischen Garten in München aufgeführt wurde.

LOUISE COETZER & OSCAR O’RYAN
Louise Coetzer, dancer and choreographer, and Oscar O’Ryan, photographer and filmmaker, bring together expertise from their respective fields to form a dynamic partnership. In 2010 they founded DARKROOM CONTEMPORARY DANCE THEATRE – a project based company formed as vehicle to reimagine dance, through its innovative approach to staging and presenting contemporary works. Projects spearheaded by the founders provide platforms and create opportunities for skills development and exchange among all artists involved. A focus on the use of new technology and digital media frame their artistic approach. Similarly does interdisciplinary exploration, with project collaborators including visual artists, musicians, designers, filmmakers and digital artists.
Louise Coetzer (b 1980, South Africa) is a multidisciplinary dance artist working within the genres of site-specific performance, digital & live art, choreography for the stage, and dance film. Her works are experiential, experimental, and often have interdisciplinary approaches at their core.

Oscar O’Ryan (b 1978, South Africa) is a photographer and videographer specializing in capturing movement and dance as well as reportage style visual stories. He implements photo and video projects geared towards raising the profile of dance as art form.

Louise Coetzer, Tänzerin und Choreographin, und Oscar O’Ryan, Fotograf und Filmemacher, verbinden das Wissen ihrer verschiedenen künstlerischen Disziplinen in einer dynamischen Partnerschaft. 2010 gründeten sie DARKROOM CONTEMPORARY DANCE THEATRE – eine projektbasierte Kompanie, die als Vehikel dient, um Tanz durch die innovative Inszenierung zeitgenössischer Arbeiten neu zu denken. Die von dem Duo initiierten Projekte schaffen eine Plattform für Austausch und Weiterentwicklung aller beteiligter Künstler*innen. Ein zentraler Aspekt ihrer künstlerischen Arbeit ist der Einsatz neuer Technologien und digitaler Medien. Ebenso wichtig ist die interdisziplinäre Zusammenarbeit, die Künstler*innen aus der Bildenden Kunst, aus Musik, Design, Film und digitaler Kunst zusammenführt.
Louise Coetzer (geb. 1980, Südafrika) ist eine multidisziplinäre Tänzerin und Choreographin. Sie kreiiert ortsspezifische Performances, digitale und Live-Kunst, Bühnenchoreografie sowie Tanzfilme. Ihre Arbeiten sind erfahrungsorientiert, experimentell und stellen interdisziplinäre Ansätze in den Mittelpunkt.

Oscar O’Ryan (geb. 1978, Südafrika) ist Fotograph und Videograph. Er ist spezialisiert auf die filmische Erfassung von Bewegung und Tanz sowie auf reportageartige visuelle Erzählungen. Er realisiert Foto- und Videoprojekte, die darauf abzielen, Tanz als künstlerische Ausdrucksform zu stärken.
